Race and Cultural Equity Task Force
The goal of the Task Force is to ensure that the policies and procedures of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission lead to grant awards that reflect the rich diversity (demographic, disciplinary, and cultural) of the population of Sacramento. Sixteen members of the public have been appointed to serve on the Task Force.
The work of the task force is to review existing policies and guidelines, provide direction and make recommendations to the Arts Commissioners. Specifically, the Task Force will provide recommendations for the formation of the Arts Commission’s Cultural Equity Statement and for cultural inclusiveness in the selection of grants.
The objectives of the Task Force include:
a - Define cultural and racial equity in grant-making - research best practices and adopt Sacramento standards.
b - Develop outreach standards and processes to ensure inclusion, diversity and accessibility through SMAC review panels, committees, outreach, programs, etc.
c - Develop noticing, reporting standards, methods for collecting and using data, and collecting public comments and feedback.
d- Recommend objectives for Phase 2, if appropriate.
There will be two public meetings of the Task Force:
