arts day of giving 2013

April 29, 2013 was the Arts Day of Giving!

Sparked by Mayor Kevin Johnson's For Arts Sake Initiative, history was made when for the first time ever the Sacramento region focused on giving online to the arts for 24 hours.Arts Day of Giving Thank you sign

On behalf of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, thanks to each and every one of the 3,460 donors and sponsors who gave to the arts on the Arts Day of Giving, raising more than $500,000 for 78 arts and cultural organizations in the Sacramento region.

The community came to life Monday morning with social media campaigns that generated almost 1,000 new donors and expanded the philanthropic base for the arts in our region.
Many thanks to the sponsors who contributed to the $100,000 matching funds including the Sacramento Community Region Foundation, Wells Fargo, Western Health Advantage, Barry and Lynda Keller, Enlow and Melena Ose Arts Endowment Fund, SAFE Credit Union, Jean Runyon Endowment for the Arts Fund and Teichert Foundation.  The match was principal incentive and inspiration for the organizations to participate and the donors to contribute.
Thanks also to the 26 restaurants, coffee houses and others who offered incentives to give at their establishments throughout the day.

I especially want to thank the Sacramento Region Community Foundation and GiveLocalNow. GiveLocalNow flawlessly coordinated the event from beginning to end, garnering the support and participation of the 26 participating businesses, organizing events throughout the day, coordinating volunteers, and leading the charge to secure match sponsors. The Arts Day of Giving would not have been possible without the Sacramento Region Community Foundation.

The Foundation was figuratively and literally the engine that ran the Arts Day of Giving.  The Foundation not only dedicated significant staff time and expertise, but financial resources as well.   In addition to contributing to the match and funding most of the prizes, the Foundation purchased the software that made it possible for donors to contribute online.  This online database will not just benefit the arts, but the entire nonprofit community.  It is an incredible gift that, beginning with the Arts Day of Giving, will cultivate and grow philanthropy in this region into the future.
