Amalia FischbacherAmalia Fischbacher

FISCHBACHER STREET

Amalia Fischbacher was a Sacramento City College art instructor for 35 years. Her contributions to building the avant garde art program at City College were recognized in 1982 when the art department building was named in her honor. Of the 24 significant landmarks listed on the Sacramento City College campus map, eight are named after administrators, professors or coaches and of those eight, only the Fischbacher Fine Arts Building is named after a woman.  Known for her love of color, she began her art training in Europe, coming later to City College and studying with other artists including Don Reich and Wayne Thiebaud, before becoming an art instructor. Her students included, among others, renowned Sacramento painter Gregory Kondos who himself became a City College art professor in 1956.
