ABOUT US

Great Art Makes a Great Community
The Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission (SMAC), established in 1977, is a public agency devoted to supporting, promoting and advancing the arts in the region.  Funded by the City and County, we provide funding to local artists and arts groups; we promote the arts through marketing, outreach and education initiatives; we provide resources to support and increase regional arts education activities; and we serve as a community partner and resource.

The agency is guided by 11 Commissioners, five appointed by the Sacramento City Council, five appointed by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, and one appointed jointly by the mayors of Folsom, Isleton, and Galt.  The Arts Commission meets on the second Monday of every month or as needed.

The Commission is advised on programming by 6 Committees comprised of members of the Sacramento community and appointed by the Commissioners.  Committees meet once a month or as needed.
