APP ART WALKS

Walking Tours
Are you interested in learning more about public art in Sacramento? Getting some exercise, while learning about your City? Do you have guests in town with nothing to do? Contact the Arts Commission and reserve your place on a walking tour designed to highlight the amazing and wonderful artwork in Sacramento!

TOURS FOR GROUPS
Tours and presentations of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission's Art in Public Places Sacramento International Airport Public Art program are offered for groups of 5 or more. With the start of 2011, there is now a charge for group tours. Tours for school groups remain free. Tours include:

  • an overview of a broad range of styles and media in the works of diverse local, regional, and nationally-recognized public artists,
  • an appreciation of how art is integrated into the environment, and
  • an introduction to provoking and thought inducing artworks that inspire participants to express their thoughts and ideas about art and their community.
  • tours are tailored to the interests of the audience.

FREE PUBLIC ART TOURS AND IN-CLASS PRESENTATIONS TO SCHOOL GROUPS IN SACRAMENTO
Tours are lively, interactive and tailored to the audience.  They are designed to reinforce classroom curriculum including California history, Sacramento city history, government, and natural resources. . They provide participants with:

  • An overview of a broad range of styles and media in the works of diverse local, regional, and
  • nationally-recognized public artists;
  • An introduction to the definition of public art and public space;
  • An appreciation of how art is integrated into the environment;
  • An introduction to provoking and thought inducing artworks that inspire students to express their thoughts and ideas about art and their community.

If you are unable to arrange a field trip, an in-class virtual tour can be arranged. Presentations incorporate state art standards such as aesthetic valuing and historical and cultural context.

Tour Leader Program:
The Tour Leader Program is for art historians, artists, educators, and/or community members who are interested in public art and volunteering to lead public art tours throughout the Sacramento area. Please check back for future training information.
