Things to Consider to Make It Safe and Successful
The Second Saturday Art Walk occurs each Second Saturday of the month from 5pm to 10pm. The City of Sacramento recognizes the Second Saturday Art Walk as an integral event that contributes to the artistic and cultural vitality of entertainment throughout the City’s boulevards, streets, and galleries. Permit requirements for Second Saturday Art Walk activities vary from standard permit requirements. For information on permits please contact Special Event Services at (916) 808-7888.

Alcohol Permits
If you are planning to sell or serve alcohol at your event, you will need to obtain a One-Day Alcohol Beverage Permit from the Sacramento Police Department and a Special Daily License from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). This license authorizes the temporary sale or serving of alcohol for consumption on the premises.  Sale or consumption off the premises is strictly prohibited. To qualify for a Special Daily License you must be an existing non-profit organization.

To begin the permit process, contact the Sacramento Police Department for a One-Day Alcohol Beverage Permit Request. 

Events south of Highway 50:  (916) 808-6001
Events Downtown: (916) 808-4500
Events north of the American River: (916) 566-6401

Once you obtain your One-Day Alcohol Beverage Permit from the Sacramento Police Department, contact ABC at, (916) 227-2002, to obtain a Special Daily License. 

When serving alcohol, please remember the following:

  • Alcoholic beverages are to be served in 5 oz cups
  • Alcoholic beverages may only be served to those persons age 21 years or older
  • Patrons may not leave the business premise with open containers of alcohol

Amplified Sound Permits
“Amplified sound” means speech, music, or other sound projected by electronic equipment including amplifiers, loud speakers, microphones, or similar devices which are intended to increase the volume.

Public Property
Amplified Sound: Special Event Permit required
Non Amplified Sound: No permit required (A six foot pedestrian pathway must be maintained at all times.)

Private Property
Amplified Sound Outdoors: Special Event Permit required
Amplified Sound Indoors: No permit required unless a fee or cover is charged

Applications must be submitted a minimum of 7 business days in advance.

Sidewalk Sales
Outdoor vending is allowed during Second Saturday Art Walk events without additional permits provided that the items sold/displayed, are the same items normally sold or displayed inside an adjacent fixed business location.  A six foot pedestrian pathway must be maintained at all times.
